Family Activism Workshop

In October 2020 theo+leigh hosted a Family Activism Workshop. The workshop started with a roundtable discussion for parents led by parenting coach Joshua Castillo (Ask the Child Whisper) on the importance of today’s Black Lives Matter movement + how all families can be part of the movement as helpers. Followed by a Q & A portion moderated by mom entrepreneur Shennel Fuller (Miles and Milan). The workshop included two interactive family activities: a read aloud of All Are Welcome by Alexndra Penfold by Anthony Bryant (Little Nomad Shop). The book + discussion promoted families to think and discuss how they can support the movement and be inclusive. The second activity was an art project: Signs of Change by ART CAMP Studios. Families got to break out the art supplies from custom designed art boxes and created a piece of art to be used at a future protest or hung in your home or community to inspire change. The lesson was led by art teacher Arielle Goddard of ART CAMP studio. Throughout the workshop families enjoyed some yummy granola by HomeBoy Foods as a special breakfast treat. Each participating family received a Family Event Box that included all supplies + links to the workshop.

Family Even Boxes Included:
Event Overview Guide in a Miles and Milan theo+leigh tote
All Are Welcome by Alexandra Penfold (Hardcover Book) from Little Nomad Shop
Signs of Change Art Box from ART CAMP studio

For each box purchased a back to school backpack was donated to School on Wheels. The backpack includes a complete set of school supplies for a student entering Kindergarten through 2nd grade. 50 backpacks in total were donated with an additional $367.20 of proceeds from the Shop of a Cause page.
